Rotoscope

A piece from Computer Arts

Background Sketches

Lights and the primary colors were my main focus for this piece. I came up with different sketches in Adobe Photoshop from natural light behind a mountain scene, to street lights glowing at night.

I found the party theme to be creative and energetic. I wanted to create the illusion of space and depth with the different colored sections.

Illustrator Final Product

To create the background for my rotoscope, I used Adobe Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator allowed me to have that clean, polished look that I envisioned for my Photoshop sketches.

Rotoscope

For my rotoscope outline, I used a more neutral light color. I knew that my background would have darker colors, and I wanted my outline to stand out against that.

My focus was more on the color than anything else. I wanted to keep this sketch line work look and have the filled in areas transform the piece.

Filling in the Color

The color pallet was kept to a minimum. I didn't want bright colors in the rotoscope itself since the background had plenty.

Highlights and Shadows

Going back to the stylized look I mentioned before, I kept the shadows and highlights more expressive.

Building the highlights and shadows added dimension while also tying in the yellow reflected light from the background.

Rotoscope Final Product

Through this project, I was able to expand my knowledge in different programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects.

The Final Product of the Rotoscope was put together with other students work to make a cohesive lyric video to "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" by Wham!

Through this project and working with different students, I was able to communicate with others through sharing files and working in and out of the classroom. I was able to take how I organize and work, and adjust it to a process that would be smoother and easier for everyone involved.
